Proving a point...

I have been wondering about offering to do paintings of special places for people. I haven't really done any research into knowing if there would be a market, but part of me was holding back as I wasn't really sure if I could actually produce a painting of a place I have no emotional attachment to.

So its been sat mulling over in my mind for a while when I came across this lovely places on Facebook . I was really taken by a photo of Hele Corn mill near Ilfracombe http://www.facebook.com/HeleCornMill. I love places like this and I will definitely be dropping in at sometime, to have a nosey and to sample the Elderflower, lemon and lime cordial and of course the cakes, Nom Nom........
Anyway back to the point, I cheekily asked if I could paint from one of the photos they had ( thankyou guys for letting me).... and low and behold the result is below.

I am quite pleased as I normally paint things or places I have an emotional attachment to and although after having painted this, I am quite fond of the place, I have never actaully been there. So now I feel I have proved to myself that I can actual achieve a reasonable painting if someone did actually want one.

So the research begins............
Question .
1. Is this something you think would appeal to you, or someone you know?
2. Is there somewhere special, that at some time ( and money permitting) you would feel you would want an artist view of?
or
3. Honestly am I barking up the wrong tree, and you are happy with a photo memento of that special place?

Thanks
Janice x

Little Art book

I have been making little art books for years for family and friends so thought I would make a limited edition one, using prints of some of my work. This one is based on my water paintings and I will only ever produce 10 of them. As each one will be made as they are ordered, then there will be slight variations ,so you are getting a unique artwork.
They will be Signed by me and numbered, each page is just 7cm x 7cm and made from a single sheet of paper ,folded to make a Ox-pillow quilt book, with hard covers and ribbons to tie.

Just when you think....

.... you may be getting the hang of this painting lark, you see something that just blows your mind and you realise what a long way you have to go. Having said that I feel very inspired to work towards getting to a fraction of the quality of Gillys work

Light in the Dark

I found this really bad photo of me trying to capture the beautiful moonlight on Mexico. My photography is not normally this bad, but I had had quite a few Martinis and Tequilas, well thats my excuse and I am keeping to it. So as I hadn't capture the moment in photography, I thought can I paint it?
I am not happy with it and I may work on it , but thats always a dangerous move, as I have a nasty habit of over working things and ruining them, so we will see. I did learn a lot about light and Dark in the process and I always like to challenge myself so in that respect it was a success.

Re-arrange

So after my blog yesterday and some great comments here and Folksy , I have made a start on re-arranging my room. Cleared a lot of the rubbish so everything is away or on the bookcase and I have move the desk away from the window. already it feels better. I can't use the futon, as a bed but wouldn't take much sorting if someone came to stay.

I need new lighting and I think I will paint the dark purple white or at least paler. ( shame as I love the colour.
I started painting up there yesterday and even Smelly welly dog came and sat in with me which he wont normally x

Craft/Art room Success???

This is my craft room. I'be had it just over a year now....lovely isn't it?
Well Yes it is, but after using it for a year I realise there is a problem? I don't actually use it!!!
...I just don't get it, I have all my favourite things in there, I love the colours and its dual purpose with the futon in so people can stay over or I can sit and relax. But as you can see I just dump things in it. I am really into my painting at the moment but I always end up in my dining room, I just can't seem to paint where I am suppose to.

I am thinking it may need a major de-clutter and makeover, but no idea what I want, as in theory I want what I've got.......Help!!!
